Hungary

HungaryHungaryHungary

The Hungarian Empire once stretched from the mountains to the see, but is now a landlocked mountainless county at the heart of Central Europe surrounded by Austria, Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, and Slovenia. With the enchanting Lake Balaton and the lively and majestic capital Budapest, Hungary offers visitors some real treats even with its reduced borders. These include historic wine regions, nine World Heritage Sites, the largest remaining grasslands in Central Europe and the largest medicinal bath in Europe (Széchenyi Medicinal Bath).

Geography of Hungary

Around half of the county consists of the flat rolling planes of the Carpathian Basin, but there are mountainous regions on the Slovak border (the Carpathians) and some hilly regions in the west. The large Danube divides the country in two with the large Lake Balaton providing the other main known aqua feature.

Climate

The country has a continental climate which means cold, snowy winters and warm humid summers. Hungary’s average temperature in the summer is 27 to 35 °C whilst in the winter it is 0 to −15 °C. The average yearly temperature is 9.7 °C.
